ENGINEER I

– M/P Focus

 

Summary:

The selected candidate is responsible for designing basic mechanical (HVAC) and plumbing engineering systems for commercial, residential, and some industrial spaces. Designing includes drafting, equipment selection, submittal review, and project coordination with Architects.

 

Essential Duties + Responsibilities:

  • Builds mechanical and plumbing systems and documents their design process through schematic CAD drafting and manages contractor questions during project construction.
  • Prepares and documents applicable regional code requirements for each project.
  • Works with interoffice teams to solve conflicts between jurisdictional codes and standards, client requirements, and architectural designs.
  • Develops mechanical and plumbing designs, equipment selections, assessment of owner needs, and initiates the development of an overall design plan.

 

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for learning applications of mechanical / plumbing engineering principles and codes.
  • Conducts investigative analysis toward completion of assigned design tasks.
  • Directs preparation of design drawings and/or specifications and construction phase engineering tasks under the supervision of more senior engineers.
  • Communicates and coordinates tasks with other project team disciplines.
  • Participates in the development of the project cost model and design.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, structural engineers and architects.
  • Makes appropriate modifications that are cost effective to systems.
  • Maintains familiarity with all design disciplines including Fire Protection, HVAC, hydronics, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Performs construction administration activities on projects.
  • Retains knowledge of codes for projects and applicable municipal requirements.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from manager.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university. On the job training will be provided/ 0-3 years of work experience.
  • This job does not require any certificates, licenses or registrations. You will be working under the supervision of licensed professional engineers, so all time worked will qualify towards applicant’s eligibility to receive a PE license if the applicant has passed their FE exam.

 

Experience and Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS – Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use Psychrometric charts, pump curves. Can calculate friction and minor losses in pipe fluid flows, and perform basic heat transfer “resistor-analogy” analysis.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS – Most required work is almost exclusively on the computer, but the computer is not itself the focus of the position. Has an advanced understanding and capabilities in using applicable programs such as AutoCAD Autodesk, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word.
    • Familiarity with Revit, Carrier HAP, COMcheck, and/or Trane Trace is desired, but not required for initial hire. Use of these programs will be required within 6 months of hire, training will be provided.
  • REASONING ABILITY – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
